Michael Berkin is an experienced restructuring advisor who has assisted clients to review and develop reorganization plans, value complex business assets and perform due diligence on potential transactions in numerous bankruptcies. He is experienced at reviewing and evaluating a company’s operational performance and making recommendations to enhance profitability.
Prior to joining Goldin, Michael was a Managing Director at L Tersigni Consulting, where his responsibilities included assisting creditors to evaluate strategic, operating and restructuring plans, analyzing claims and developing proposals to maximize creditor recoveries. Michael played a key role in numerous bankruptcies, including Owens Corning, W.R. Grace, USG Corporation and Kaiser Aluminum. He participated extensively in these matters in negotiations with debtors, creditors, insurers and other key constituents respecting post-emergence business plans and the terms and structure of bankruptcy plans.
Since joining Goldin, Michael has assisted in managing or advising numerous companies in bankruptcy or turnaround. Key clients have included a large financial services firm, an investment advisor and a large regional not-for-profit institution.
Earlier, Michael held various positions at ABN Amro Securities (and its predecessor firms ING Barings and Furman Selz) as a Managing Director and the business manager for several business units. Michael began his career at Arthur Andersen where he provided advisory, accounting and auditing services to clients concentrated in the financial services sector. A Certified Public Accountant, he received an MBA in Professional Accounting from Rutgers University and BA in Economics/Political Science from the University of Rochester. Michael is a Certified Insolvency and Restructuring Advisor.
